The short answer

You can list an app as Free. If you want to charge money, the lowest paid price in major storefronts is typically 0.29 in local currency. Examples include 0.29 USD, 0.29 CAD, 0.29 EUR, and 0.29 GBP. Some regions differ slightly, such as 0.30 CHF in Switzerland.

How App Store pricing works

Apple uses preset price points. You choose a price point in App Store Connect, and Apple automatically localizes it for each country or region. The grid starts at the minimum paid tier mentioned above and extends upward across many tiers.

Free vs paid, and what you actually earn

  • Free is always allowed.
  • If you charge a price, you must accept the Paid Apps Agreement in App Store Connect.
  • Your proceeds are the customer price minus Apple’s commission and applicable taxes. Many small developers qualify for the Small Business Program with a 15 percent commission. Otherwise, the standard commission is 30 percent.

Practical tips

  1. If you want the lowest friction, consider launching Free with in-app purchases. Apple’s price grid also supports low IAP tiers starting at 0.29 in many currencies.
  2. If you plan to charge the minimum, select the 0.29 price tier in your primary storefront and let localization handle the rest.
  3. You can schedule price changes in App Store Connect so a switch between Free and paid (or vice versa) happens automatically across storefronts.

Bottom line: the absolute cheapest is Free. For paid apps, the floor is usually 0.29 in local currency, with a few markets that round slightly differently.
